The Willis Home at 1501 Shepard Street

"If you have been to Shevans Park, you've seen it. It was built in 1939 and was completely remodelled in 2003. The land was originally owned by Duffy Wade (my husband's grandfather). My in-laws were living in a small apartment over the post office downtown. Duffy deeded the property to his daughter and son-in-law to build their first home. My father-in-law sold his car and they borrowed $2,600 to build it.

"My husband grew up in this house. So many of the older homes in this area are being torn down to make way for newer ones. We could have done that, but we decided to work with what we had. By doing the upgrades, we have maintained a little of our family history to be passed down to our children."
